Community Programs

WREN offers programs to the community for all ages, from pre-school to adult. Programs span a wide variety of topics, from bird and dragonfly walks to presentations on pollination.

The programs aim to develop an environmentally literate citizenry that can compete in the global economy, has the skills, knowledge, and inclination to make well-informed choices, and exercises the rights and responsibilities as members of our community.

The education program takes into account the learning styles of both children and adults. A variety of teaching techniques are guided by the following principles:

  • Students do not passively assimilate information and knowledge, but actively construct new knowledge from experience, data, and information
  • Hands-on experience is a crucial component to an effective learning experience
  • The more one knows about ecological principles, the more one is likely to view his or her own life decisions from a holistic, balanced, and cognitive framework

Community programs are held on weekends and evenings and are open to the public. Look for announcements in the Eugene Weekly and Register Guard calendars. These programs can be customized to meet your group’s needs, and can be adapted for all ages. To schedule a customized program, contact Holly McRae at 541-683-6494, or email wew@wewetlands.org.

Evenings and weekends
Weekend programs are usually held on the 3rd Saturday of the month, throughout the year. Topics and audiences vary. Some examples of past events include dragonfly walks, bird walks, and programs on beavers, owl pellet dissection, wetland geology and winter crafts.
